It's All In A Name

Hello blog. Hope you had a splendid Monday. I, personally, am not the biggest fan of Monday - but I discovered how to make it all better:
That's right...the cure for Monday Mayhem is a Cake 'n Shake from Coldstone Creamery. This, my friends, was my dinner. I'm thinking of making this a Monday tradition....but can already tell my stomach would like something with more nutritional value. But OOooooo, so good.

There are few things in life that I love more than gooey, sugary goodness -- in no particular order:

The hubs..........

My Nine West heels.......
Anything ever written by Kurt Vonnegut......
Sewing......

And my babies!!!! My Archer:

...and my Aiko:

You know those people who love their dogs a lot...maybe too much? Dress them in scarfs, let them sleep in bed, and refer to their spouse as "mommy" or "daddy" when the only children they have are the dogs? We are THOSE people. So, it only seemed fitting to name my pursuit of passion after my two furry passions.

We got Archer about a year into marriage. We had managed to keep a plant alive for 6 months, so we thought a dog was the next natural progression. We wanted a dog that was small, could deal with apartment life, smart, and ridiculous looking. Hence, our un-groomed mini-schnauzer. When the breeder described Archer as "quirky", we didn't know she meant anxious and neurotic. But that's how we like him -he fits into the family :)

Even with his anti-social nature, we thought it would be best to force a full-time play mate on him. So, this past January we found Aiko (pronounced Eye-Co -- it means "little love" in Japanese). Aiko is the opposite of Archer -- she is hyper, bubbly, and a people person. At first, the puppies were not on good terms and we had to separate them. Now, they are best buds and partners in crime -- plus, they have an affinity for quilts (just like momma!)

Pursuing Passion

Hello. Welcome to the blog. We are Aiko & Archer Designs. And we quilt.

Some people hear "quilt" or "quilting" and automatically think "old lady hobby". I used to think that. I mean, only old church ladies pursue such an archaic past-time, right? Then I found fabric. Bright, beautiful, fabric. Fabric that when paired together in modern and interesting patterns makes one's heart flutter. I found happiness:

The idea of creating an heirloom, a conversation piece, a snuggly security blanket that reflects such joy and creativity --- that's what I want to do. That's what I want to pursue. Archer & Aiko designs is my avenue for this passion. I desire to create modern quilts for modern kids.

This blog is a chronicle of my journey to transition a hobby to a business, a desire to a pursuit. It will be a long journey, one with ups and downs -- successes and failures, but worth it in the end:
